You will start your game with a standard Hammer, Axe, Hoe, Watering Can, and Sickle. You also will have a few bags of Turnip seeds and a standard Necklace for your Ornament rucksack slot.
The Fishing Pole is acquired from Galen. Visit his house when he is inside on a Saturday between 12:00 pm and 2:00 pm. He will give you his old Fishing Pole at the beginning standard level. Make sure that you don't have anything equipped in the colored slots of your Rucksack else you won't activate the event.
To increase the strength of your tools you first need to use them. When the tool reaches 100% skill for it's level you can upgrade it. You can learn what the tool's current level is by going into your Farm Summary page and tap your stylus on your portrait.
The upgrades require ore from the Mines and a call to Gray via your telephone. You can upgrade your tools to Copper, then Silver, Gold, and then Mithril. The higher level the tool is, the more work it can do in one use. When you have maximized your 6 tools to Mithril level then special tools will appear inside of the 3rd mine.
